Sikh boy forcibly shorn, tension grips Baghapurana
Moga, Dec 14 (UNI) Tension gripped the small town of Baghapurana in Moga district of Punjab after three miscreants forcibly cut off the hair of a 15-year old Amritdhari (baptised) youth this morning.
Sukhjit Singh, employed at a cloth merchant's shop at Baghapurana was stopped in a deserted street on his way to work, by the miscreants, who forcibly cut his hair.
The people in the area became agitated as the boy rushed to his employer and the news spread.
Pawan Kumar Roy, SSP, reached to the spot to pacify the agitated people and assured arrest of the culprits. He also constituted a special investigation team in this respect.
The police has registered a case under section 295-A (hurting of the religious sentiments) of the IPC against one Gajja of Lohara village of Moga district, who had allegedly made threatening calls on mobile to Sukhjit last night and early this morning.
Prominent people in the area, including Sarpanch Rajyana, Jagtar Singh and local Akali Dal leader Ajmer Singh, strongly condemned the incident.
Baghapurana police has intensified patrolling in the region to keep the situation under control, the SSP said.
