Seeded pairs advance in All India tennis tourney

Bhimavaram, Andhra Pradesh, Dec 13 (UNI) Vinod Sridhar and V M Ranjeet of Tamil Nadu and Karina Ahuja of Delhi and Anupama Rajur of Karnataka, combine today moved into the men and women doubles semi-finals of the All India ranking tennis tournament being played at the Cosmpolitan Club here tonight.

In the men's quarter-final match, Vinod and Ranjeet, outwitted Sandeep Choudhary (Rajasthan) and Varun Gunaseelan (TN) in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.

Karina and Anupama also won in similar fashion by defeating Harshini Reddy (Karnataka) and Nupur Kaul (Maharashtra) 6-3, 7-6 in the women's quarter-final match.

Jilke Nalord of Delhi and Naina Karsolia of Uttar Pradesh, barged into the semifinals by pipping Prerana Pratap and Prarthana Prathap of Karnataka 6-2, 6-1 in another women's quarter-final match.

In the men's quarter-final, Kiran Kumar and Anirudh Thammana of Karnataka, trounced Divyanshu Singh (Delhi) and Yogesh Phogat (Haryana) 6-1, 6-3 and entered the semi-final.

Talking to UNI here, tournament organisers said the doubles quarter-final between Asha Nanda Kumar and Varsha Shiva Shankar of Karnataka and Swarupa Radha (Delhi) Apurvika Shukla (UP) combine will be played tomorrow morning.

Results: Men doubles (quarter finals): 1 Vinod Sridhar and V M Ranjeet (TN) beat Sandeep Choudhary (RAJ) and Varun Gunaseelan (TN) 6-3, 6-4.

2 Kiran Kumar and Anirudh Thammana (KAR) beat Divyanshu Singh (DLI) and Yogesh Phogat (Haryana) 6-1, 6-3.

3 Aditya Madkekar (MAH) and Arjun Gowtham (KAR) bt Ajay Selvaraj (TN) and Vignesh Venkatesh (AP) 6-3, 6-2.

4 Akash Gujrathi(MAH) and G P Prajneesh (TN) bt Vikramaditya Menon (TN) and Abhay Prakash (KAR) 4-6,7-5,6-2.

Women doubles (quarter finals): 1 Karina Ahuja (DLI) and Anupama Rajur (KAR) bt Harshini Reddy (KAR) and Nupur Kaul (MAH) 6-3, 7-6.

2 Jilke Nalord (DLI) and Naina Karsolia(UP) beat Prerana Pratap and Prarthana Pratap (KAR) 6-2, 6-1.

3. Chinna Shanthi Rajur and Anushree Tamanna (KAR) bt Anukrita Prasad (DLI) and Shilpi Jaiswal(BIHAR) 6-1, 6-1.
