New Delhi, Dec 14: The government today said it had set up a three-member departmental inquiry committee to ascertain the causes of a recent accident at Nagda coal mine of Bharat Coking Coal Ltd (BCCL) in Dhanbad district of Jharkhand, which claimed the lives of 50 workers.

Minister of State for Coal Dasari Narayana Rao told the Rajya Sabha that the committee, headed by the CMD, Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI), would submit its report shortly.

Dr. Rao said a Court of Inquiry had also been constituted by the Labour and Employment Ministry in October to inquire into the causes and circumstances of the accident at Nagda mine of Bhatdih colliery of BCCL.

The Court of Inquiry is to submit its report within three months.

''Based on the findings and recommendations of the Inquiry Report, the causes of the accident will be known and action will be taken against the persons found responsible for it,'' he said.

He said sufficient infrastructure was available with district authorities to undertake the rescue work.
