Punjab govt approves mega projects worth Rs 6,895 crore

Chandigarh, Dec 14 (UNI) The Punjab government today approved 26 new mega projects worth Rs 6,895.52 crore, including industrial and township projects, with an employment potential for about 58,545 persons.

The projects were approved in a meeting of the Empowered Committee held here under the Chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh.

Capt Singh said the projects approved included five manufacturing projects to be set up in - Mohali, Patiala, Nawanshahar and Sangrur districts with an investment of Rs 1,452.22 crore which would generating total employment of 3,695 persons.

The Empowered Committee also approved 13 multiplex-cum-hotel projects in Ludhiana, Mohali, Amritsar, Bathinda and Patiala districts involving an investment of Rs 2,759.17 crore and would generate employment of 14,450 persons.

It also approved five projects of industrial parks in Mohali district with an investment of Rs 2356.13 crore likely to generate a total employment 39,300 persons.

Besides, one Information Technology (IT) project in Mohali was also approved with an investment of Rs 28 crore and having an employment potential of 1100 persons.

The Chief Minister said the committee also approved one mega housing project at Jalandhar of Delhi-based Parkwood Developers Pvt. Ltd, New Delhi at a total investment of Rs 300 crore with an employment potential of 1,000 persons.

He said with the approval of these new projects the Empowered Committee had so far approved 377 Mega Projects in the industrial, housing and agro sectors in its various meetings with a total investment of Rs 1,03,117.81 crore.
