Poor response to general strike
Puducherry, Dec 14 (UNI) Normal life remained unaffected in the Union Territory of Puducherry as the general strike sponsored by Left trade unions to protest the ''anti-people'' polices of the UPA government at the Centre, evoked poor response today.
Buses, taxis and other priavte vehicles plied as usual, while autorickshaws and tempos were off the road. Government offices, textile mills and private industrial units worked inspite of thin attendence, while nationalised banks and BSNL office did not function.
A large number of Left trade union activists courted arrest by indulging in rail and road rokos.
However, no untoward incidents were reported from any part of the Union Territory.
