PM seeks cooperation with Japan in civilian nuclear energy field
Tokyo, Dec 14 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has asked Japan and other countries to cooperate with India in the field of civilian nuclear energy, emphasising that New Delhi required energy supplies to meet growing challenges on the economic front.
In an interview to Japanese daily Nikkei Shimbun, Dr Singh, who is on a four-day visit to Japan, said he might seek both funds and techology assistance from Tokyo in the civilian nuclear energy sector during his talks with Japanese leaders.
Replying to a question, he said New Delhi had not yet signed an agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to give effect to the Indo-US nuclear deal, under which Washington would supply technologies and nuclear fuel to India.
