9 killed, 11 injured in road accident in HP

Shimla, Dec 14: At least nine people of a marriage party were killed and eleven injured, five of them seriously, when their vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a gorge in Shimla district late last night, police sources today said.

The Mahindra utility vehicle skidded off the thick frost covered road near Nankhari, about 75 km from here, while they were returning to Khangti village from Tikar in the district after the marriage.

The sources said the bride and the bridegroom were among nine people killed in the accident, adding that they were yet to be identified.

Five of the seriously injured have been referred to the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) here, while the rest were undergoing treatment at the Government Hospital at Rampur in the district.

Senior district officials rushed to the accident site along with a medical team last night for supervising the rescue operations, which were hampered due to darkness, the sources said.
