New slum clearance board flats for tsunami hit families

Chennai, Dec 14 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu government has decided to rebuild 2,862 slum clearance board tenements and construct 4,458 new flats for tsunami hit families at a cost of Rs 128 crore.

Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, who had promised during electioneering that all the slum clearance board tenements would be rebuilt if his party DMK came to power, today gave his sanction for the construction of 7,320 tenements and flats, an official release said here.

The slum clearance board tenements from Nochikuppam to Srinivasapuram, which were built 30 years ago would be demolished and new tenements would be built in the same places, the release said.

Besides, the government would build 4,458 flats for equal number of families, affected in the 2004 tsunami devastation, the release added.
