India bags second Gold in Chess

Doha, Dec 14 (UNI) Having already ensured the Gold yesterday, Indian woodpushers completed the formality by drawing their ninth and last round against Kazakhstan and finish on the top in the mixed team event of chess competition at the Asian Games here today.

With an aggregate of 22.5 points, India bagged their second Gold in chess after Koneru Humpy won in women's rapid chess event to open the country's golden account in the Games.

The Grandmaster from Andhra Pradesh was in elements today as she routed Dana Aketayeva in the final encounter after Harikrishna lost to GM Murtas Kazhgaleyev and Sasikiran drew with Darmen Sadvakassov on the other boards.

The Chinese team won the Silver with 17.5 points while Iran (16.5) commendably finished third on the podium.

Yesterday, the Indian trio decimated Indonesia 2.5-0.5 to ensure the Gold with a round to spare.
