Haryana CM to inagurate boiler drum unit of thermal plant

Yamunanagar, Dec 14 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda will inaugurate the boiler drum lifting unit of the 600 MW Deenbandhi Chhotu Ram theraml power project here tomorrow.

This prestigious project is jointly being executed by the Haryana Power Generation Corporation (HPGC) and Reliance energy and its first unit is expected to become operational by end of next year.

To meet the ever increasing demand of electricity, the state government had decided to establish a thermal plant in the vicinity of the town way back in 1979. For this purpose, 1107 acres of land was acquired and global tenders were invited.

In the year 1995, the then Prime Minister P V Narsimha Rao laid the foundation stone of the thermal power project through remote control from Suraj Kund in district Faridabad. But due to one reason or the other the work could not start further for many years.

In the year 2003, HPGC and Reliance Energy reached an agreement to complete this project. The then Chief Minister OM Parkash Chautala laid the foundation stone of the project again in October 2004 and named it as Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Project.

The present Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda performed Bhoomi Pujan on August 2005 and since then the work is in progress.

It is claimed that the first unit of 300 MW of project would be completed by November next year and the second unit of 300 MW by February 2008. The completion of the project would help in overcoming the shortage of electricity in the entire state. To achieve the target, Reliance Energy is making all out efforts and work is in full swing.

The erection work of the boiler is one of the most important milestones in a power project and the erection work of the boiler of unit-I has already been completed.

The construction work of 275 metre high chimney-shell is in the final stage and would be completed in time. The work of turbo-generator foundations, demineralised water plant, clarified water pump house and raw water pump house is also nearing completion.

The construction works related to the coal handling plant, the fuel oil pump house and cooling tower is in progress as per shedule.

The 220 KV switchyard for supply to backup power has been charged.
