Grain-based alcohol production not likely to affect prices
New Delhi, Dec 14 (UNI) Minister for Food Processing Industries Subhodh Kant Sahai today said it was not commercially viable to substitute grains for coarse grains for the manufacture of alcohol.
In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Mr Sahai said at present alochol manufacturing units use molasis as a raw material.
The utilisation of grains for alcohol production was more expensive than molasis and chances of industries using grains in large quantity was also remote.
Therefore, the use of coarse grains are not likely to offset the supply and prices of food grains for human consumption, he said.
