Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 14 (UNI) Opposition Leader Oommen Chandy today alleged that the state government had lost its credibility with the Chief Minister denying knowledge about the loan agreement his government had with Asian Development Bank (ADB) for Sustainable Urban Development programme in the state.

Talking to mediapersons here, Mr Chandy said ''Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan should clarify whether he was not aware of the agreement.'' He said it was a disgrace if the Rs 1,000 crore agreement was signed without the knowledge of the state Chief Minister.

Mr Chandy, two-days ago, said all the relevant files pertaining to the ADB loan was seen by the Chief Minister and that the government had authorised the Resident Commissioner in Delhi to sign the ADB papers.

The Finance Minister had mentioned the project proposals in his budget speech, besides making budgetary allocation of Rs 140 crore.

The Cabinet had later decided to create a few posts to implement the ADB loan scheme and set up the Project Management Unit.

The five corporations had set up project implementation units, besides passing individual resolutions accepting the loan, he said.

On the Left sponsored general strike, Mr Chandy said the Left parties, instead of addressing the problems of the people of the state, resorted to strike, blaming the Centre for its policies.

''This is the second strike, called by the Left parties after they came to power. The first time it was when the petrol prices were hiked,'' he added.
