Cabinet approves Sub-Committee for daily wagers
Bangalore, Dec 14 (UNI) The Karnataka Cabinet today approved the setting up of a Cabinet Sub-Committee, headed by the Law Minister, to study the feasibility of providing social justice to daily wagers, numbering about 17,000.
Emerging out of the Cabinet meeting here, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj S Horatti told reporters here that according to Supreme Court guidelines, only ten per cent of the workers could be retained in service. The State Government had decided to provide social justice to all the workers. It would take a final decision on regularising their service depending on the report submitted by the Sub-Committee. Till then, all the workers would continue in service, he added.
He said the Cabinet sanctioned implemention of a Gram Swarajya Yojana project at a total cost of Rs 600 crore. The State Government would contribute Rs 60 crore to the World Bank-aided project.
Mr Horatti said the Cabinet also approved to make Kannada compulsory as a subject for CBSE and ICSE students opting for state syllabus from the coming academic year.
The Cabinet gave its nod for shifting 21 villages affected by the Hipparagi Barrage backwaters at a cost of Rs 555 crore in Bijapur district, he said.
The Minister said the meeting also approved the starting of three sugar factories at Sindagi in Bijapur district, Afzalpur in Gulbarga district and Gokak in Belgaum district.
