BJP wants one-time Amnesty for Unauthorised Constructions

New Delhi, Dec 14 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party today reiterated its demand that the Government bring a legislation to provide one-time amnesty for all unauthorised constructions in Delhi.

"The magnitude of the problem is very big involving 4 lakh shops and 10 lakh residents and Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy had failed to keep his word that the Government will provide some relief to these people," BJP Parliamentary Party spokesman Vijay Kumar Malhotra said.

This Parliament session had three more days to go. If the Government proposed to bring any such legislation, the BJP would support it fully, he said.

Regretting the notification issued today, he said it provided no relief. In fact in some cases the penalty for regularising such construction was very high ranging from Rs 1 lakh to 4 lakh, depending on the size of land and area, he pointed out.

Mr Malhotra said Mr Reddy had assured Parliament that he was committed to provide relief and hence reduce the proposed penalty.

But nothing had been done in the notification issued by the DDA The court, he said, had stayed the sealing operation only till January 31, 2007. "There is peace in the capital now but the situation can be different in February if nothing is done," he cautioned.
