Youth held for threatening Sena MLA

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Dec 13 (UNI) A 25-year-old youth was today arrested for allegedly threatening Paithan MLA Sandipan Bhumre over telephone for an extortion amount of Rs eight lakh.

According to police, the youth identified as Balu Deorao Shelke (25) allegedly called up on the mobile phone of Shiv Sena MLA from Paithan Sandipan Bhumre and threatened to kill him if his demand for Rs eight lakh was not fulfilled by the MLA before December 15.

Mr Bhumre called up on the telephone number recorded on his mobile phone and found that it was a PCO booth about 15 km away from Pachod, the hometown of the MLA. Mr Bhumre asked the PCO owner to keep a watch on the caller till he was reaching there.

The accused phoned once again to the MLA from the another PCO adjoining to the earlier one. The MLA kept the caller busy in talking while he reached the spot. He finally caught the caller red-handed at 1230 hrs from the PCO booth and later brought him to the Pachod police station.

The Pachod police have registered an offence against the youth under sections 385, 504 and 507 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The Pachod police have transferred the case to Paithan Police station, where the youth was arrested, Additional Superintendent of Police Navinchandra Reddy told UNI.
