Three sentenced to life in a murder case

Balasore (Orissa), Dec 13 (UNI) Balasore Additional Session Judge K. C.Swain has sentenced three people including a former sarpanch to life imprisonment in a political murder case.

The three accused-former Sarpanch Harish Majhi (32), his elder brother Gobinda Majhi (34) and one Ramakanta Maharana (26) had allegedly conspired the murder of one Ganeswar Kar due to political rivalry in March 2005.

According to the prosecution Ganeswar was hacked to death by Ramakanta while he was on way from his village Kudia to a daily market at Remuna.

Ganeswar had moved a no confidence motion against Harish Majhi, a sitting sarpanch then alleging irregularities in the panchayat fund. Harish Majhi however, obtained a stay order from the court on the issue.

It was alleged that Harish Majhi and his brother Gobinda had hired Ramakanta for Rs 15,000 to execute the crime.
