Sandalwood perfumed stamp released
Bangalore, Dec 13 (UNI) The Department of Posts today released the first-ever sandalwood perfumed commemorative postage stamp in the country here.
Speaking on the occasion, Karnataka Chief Post Master General Meera Datta said the stamp, with its unmistakable sandalwood fragrance, was printed at the high security currency printing press in Nasik.
She said the design for the stamp was taken from one of the artistic sandalwood products of 'Cauvery' of the Karnataka State Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited. The stamp, costing Rs 15, first day cover, miniature sheets and information brochures, would be made available in the Philately Bureau at Bangalore General Post Office, Mysore, Belgaum, Mangalore and all other head post offices for sale to the general public. The stamps would also be made available at 60 other authorised Philatelic counters across the State.
Ms Datta announced that the Karnataka Postal Circle would hold a three-day State Philatelic exhibition here from February nine, 2007.
This year, the Postal department had brought out 50 to 60 stamps, including that of three species of endangered birds of the country.
