Rajasthan makes environmental clearance must for township projects
Jaipur, Dec 13 (UNI) Rajasthan government has made environmental clearance compulsory for any township development and big housing and commercial projects.
The clearance certificate has been made mandatory for any projects being developed by Jaipur Development Authority, Urban Development Trusts, Housing Boards or private township developers. The decision has been taken following the recent notification issued under the Environment Protection Act, 1986.
Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board director Ashok Jain said the notification was issued in September this year which stated that environment clearance is compulsory for all buildings which are over 20 square metres.
The certificate is also necessary for all development projects which are spread over an area of 50 hectares or more. The clearance will have to be taken from the specially constituted state-level committee.
The Central government had issued a notification in July 2004, making it mandatory for all townships, industrial townships, settlement colonies, commercial and office complexes, which have more than 1,000 people working in it, to have environmental clearance certificate.
