Ministers seek explanation from opposition

Hyderabad, Dec 13 (UNI) The Ministers of Andhra Pradesh today sought an explanation from the opposition, including the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) for stalling the proceedings of the House which led to adjournment for the day without transacting any business.

Talking to newspersons at the Legislature Party Office here Congress Ministers N Raghuveera Reddy, Dhramana Prasada Rao, Kanna Lakshminarayana, Mohd Ali Shabbir and M Mareppa alleged that the oppositions' main intention was to stall the proceedings to avoid discussions on important issue of the Margadarsi Financiers which was on the agenda for the day.

Though the government had agreed for the discussions on the Chief Minister's land issue, the opposition resorted to undemocratic methods, with a view to protect the interests of some individuals, they added.

They said all issues should be sorted out through discussions and debates in the Assembly. The opposition leaders had agreed to discuss the issue on Friday, in the Business Advisory Committee meeting urgently summoned by the Speaker in his chamber, and later when the issue came up in the House they insisted for immediate discussion leading to the adjournment of the House.

They hailed the decision of Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy for surrendering 618 acres of land of his family members which were excess as per the Land Reforms Act. It was a good gesture and everyone in the state should follow him and should return the excess lands to the government, they added.

They said the government's intention was to protect the lands of the poor people in the state.
