Meghalaya Speaker rejects adjournment motion
Shillong, Dec 13 (UNI) Meghalaya Assembly Speaker Martin M Danggo today rejected an adjournment motion moved by Independent MLA Manas Chaudhuri on the impasse over implementation of central schemes in the state.
The Speaker refused to accept the motion as he lacked substance.
However, Mr Danggo said this matter could be brought up, provided the specific points are raised.
Pleading to accept his motion, Mr Chaudhuri said scams over execution of Special Rural Welfare Project, Public Distribution System, and other welfare schemes meant for the under-privileged sections of the society should be unearthed.
''The execution of these Central schemes brings to the fore some glaring lacunae in the system, not to speak of the unholy nexus between politicians and bureaucrats,'' Mr Chaudhuri observed.
The journalist turned politician added that the virulence of the problem has been acknowledged by the leader of the House and even proposed to hand over the task of execution of the Central Schemes in the state to the credible missionary organisations.
''The issues at stake are specific and supremely urgent from the point of view of the man in the street whose interest we all are committed to safeguard,'' Mr Chaudhuri told the House.
