Meghalaya legislators express concern with unemployment problem
Shillong, Dec 13 (UNI) Cutting across party lines, legislators in Meghalaya today expressed concern over the rising unemployment and urged the government to tackle this burning problem.
''We are equally concern with the problem and the government is also finding solution to sorted it out,'' Chief Minister J.D.Rymbai told the state assembly during the question hour.
In the past, Mr Rymbai said, the government had set up Meghalaya Grievances and Employment Generation Council to look on this issue.
He said the Council had proposed the government to constitute a special Task Force to sort out this issue.
''White collar jobs have reached at saturated point,'' the Chief Minister stating while informing the government was considering to prepare a comprehensive policy to tackle this problem.
Answering to a query asked by ruling member Pynshai Manik Syiem (Independent), Mr Rymbai said the government has set up industrial training centres to train the educated unemployed youths in various skills.
"The government also support them for availing loans to set up small scale industrial units,'' he said.
Earlier, ruling member Process T Sawkmie said the crime rate in the state has gone up due to unemployment problem in the state.
He suggested the government to constitute a special Committee to look on this issue.
