Many shops gutted in Srinagar fire incident

Srinagar, Dec 13: Several shops were gutted in a fire in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir today, official sources said.

They said fire broke out in a shop selling mobile phones and soon engulfed some others at Amira Kadal near here at around 0700 hrs.

However, the sources said timely action by fire services personnel prevented the blaze from spreading further as otherwise the entire Koker Bazar area, housing hundreds of shops, would have been gutted in the fire.

The cause of the fire was said to be short circuit.

Several fire tenders were pressed into service to control the blaze, they added.
