LS adjourned on women's reservation issue

New Delhi, Dec 13 (UNI) Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee today adjourned the House for ten minutes during zero hour as the Left parrties insisted on a response from the government on the status of the proposed Bill for ensuring 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and state legislatures.

The issue was raised in the House by Ms C S Sujatha (CPI-M) who wanted immediate introduction of the Bill and asked the government to explain the delay.

All the Left members were on their feet, supporting her stand and insisting that the government come out with a statement.

Mr Chatterjee maintained that he could not force the government to respond to issue raised during zero hour, but this did not cut ice with the Left Sensing the mood of the members, the Speaker adjourned the proceedings for 10 minutes till 1305 hrs. The House did not have a lunch break today.
