Left oppose entry of Wal-Mart
Gulbarga Dec 13 (UNI) Reiterating their opposition to the entry of foreign companies in retail market, the left parties today said that tomorrow's nation-wide strike was in protest against such "an invasion".
Addressing a joint press meet CPI(M) state Secretariat Member Maruthi Manpade and CPI leader Shoudat Ali alleged that G-8 countries were trying to take over retail business in the country, hitting the local business community. ''The new economic policies had led to suicide of 2.12 lakh farmers and more others rendered job less.'' they alleged.
The government's effort to implement the third phase of liberalisation policies would be harmful to India as 70 per cent of people were dependent on Agriculture and opening up of this sector may cause big trouble.
Appealing all regional parties to extend their solidarity in fighting against foreign companies entering in Indian retail business they said, the left parties would keep on opposing all anti-people policies of the government.
