International terrorist cell closed in Siberia: FSB
Moscow, Dec 13 (UNI) A cell of a radical Islamic international terrorist organisation, Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami, has been closed in Russia's Tyumen Region in Siberia.
''An active member of the cell, who is a citizen of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan, surrendered to regional security agencies,'' a spokesman for the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) told RIA Novosti newsa agency today.
He said the terrorist also surrendered documents showing that the cell had been spreading extremist ideas.
The group recruited most of its members from illegal migrants, he added.
Under the provisions of the Russian penal code, no criminal charges will be filed against the Kyrgyz national.
In 2004, the Supreme Court put Hizb ut-Tahrir on the list of terrorist groups and banned it from operating in Russia.
