Energy conservation saves Rs 1,100cr
New Delhi, Dec 13 (UNI) The nearly 400 units that participated in a scheme for energy conservation in the country last year show that over Rs 1,100 crore have been saved by these units.
Against this backdrop, industrial units, office buildings, hotels and zonal railways who have conserved energy will be felicitated by the Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde in a function to mark the National Energy Conservation Day tomorrow.
The awards, National Energy Conservation Awards 2006, will honour industry leaders who have shown remarkable foresight in saving this scarce resource while benefiting themselves financially.
Schoolchildren have also done a remarkable job in creating awareness about this field and their creative efforts will also be rewarded.
Mr Shinde will also give away prizes to children who participated in nationwide painting competition as a part of the National Campaign on Energy Conservation 2006.
Under this campaign, Painting Competition was organised at the School, State and National levels. Over 3.99 lakh fourth and fifth standard schoolchildren from 17,991 Schools participated.
