CM pulls up BSES for being unresponsive

New Delhi, Dec 13 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today told private electricity supply company BSES' Chairman to improve functioning of the Discom as its staff at the lowest level is not being responsive enough to consumer grievances.

She said this while BSES Chairman Arun Kanchan, along with Managing Directors of BYPL and BRPL called on her to discuss various matters relating to the functioning of the Reliance-owned power distribution company.

Ms Dikshit said it was also reported that BSES had been resorting to indiscriminate load shedding to check power thefts thereby creating inconvenience to even genuine and honest consumers.

She asked BSES to pull up its socks and come forward with a strategy for its campaign against power theft, which should put an end to harrasment of consumers.

The chairman assured the chief minister that every effort would be made to ensure a detailed internal management review of BSES was done to see that the campaign did not affect the honest consumers.

He, however, said the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission had indicated the AT&C (transmission and distribution) losses must be brought down below 18 per cent in the next three years, which was a difficult task and required strong measures.

A campaign had been launched to check power thefts particularly in view of the fact that five special courts had been set up to try cases of power theft, of which three were in BSES areas, Mr Arun added.
