CM asks District Development Committees' accelerate development
New Delhi, Dec 13 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minster Sheila Dikshit today exhorted all nine District Development Committees to function with an aim to accelerate the pace of development in the city.
Addressing an apex committee meeting of DDCs, Ms Dikshit requested ministers in charge to effectively coordinate functioning of DDCs under their control and ensure meetings at regular intervals.
Ms Dikshit directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to sort out procedural wrangles causing delay in implementation of Deposit Developmental Works recommended by the DDCs.
The chief secretary was also requested to take the lead in chalking out an effective new mechanism to overcome delays because of existing procedure of approval being followed in respect of DDWs.
Ms Dikshit also exhorted the DDCs to make proper use of funds at their disposal and prepare a time-bound action plan for completion of developmental works during the remaining three months of this financial year.
She also instructed officers to work in tandem and ensure their participation in the DDC meetings. Government departments were also instructed to depute senior officials for the meetings.
The matter of pendency in respect of issue of SC/ST/OBC certificates was also raised in the meeting. Ms Dikshit directed the officials concerned to avoid delaying tactics and clear the backlog within the shortest possible time. She further told the officials to follow the time-frame prescribed for issueing such certificates.
A demand to dispense with the need to mention sub-caste on the certificates being issued by Delhi government was also raised in the meeting. The state government had already approached SC/ST Commission on the issue.
The meeting was attended by state Finance Minister A K Walia, Health Minister Yoganand Shastri, Industries Minister Mangat Ram Singhal, Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely, Chief Secretary Ramesh Narayanswami, Divisional Commissioner Naini Jayseelan and officials of MCD and Delhi Jal Board, besides Chairmen of DDCs.
