BSNL Puducherry to launch new mobile services shortly

Puducherry, Dec 13 (UNI) Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), Puducherry will launch new services in mobile sector 'Fleet Tracking Management System' and 'People Finder System' shortly, BSNL Puducherry General Manager Marshal Anthony Leo said here today.

Addressing a press conference here today, Mr Leo said under the Fleet Tracking Management System, the movements of vehicles like busses, trucks and tankers could be tracked while the People Finder System would help in locating the whereabouts of a mobile customer.

He said BSNL was the co-sponsor of the Puducherry shopping festival and 15,000 SIM cards, IT Cards and re-charge coupons were being sent to the festival.

In view of the festivals ahead including Christmas, all landline connections during the period would be free from installation charges of Rs 500. A customer could get his phone connection by paying Rs 250 and the balance of the security deposit of Rs 1,000 would be collected in three instalments of Rs 250 each, along with the monthly bill, he added.

He said BSNL Puducherry would also launch 'internet on the move' with a speed upto 150 kbps, for mobile subscribers with laptops using its data card, which ran over the WLL network. Subscribers would be free from searching for Wi-Fi hotspots or WLAN to access internet, he added.

This would easily facilitate sending of SMS and normal voice calls through this data card, he said.

By March the whole of Puducherry would come under the 'internet on move' scheme, Mr Leo added.

BSNL reduced the monthly rental charges of broad band modems from Rs 100 to Rs 60, while the price for outright purchase had been reduced to Rs 1,200 from Rs 1,500. BSNL introduced new 'Bfone for internet' for dial up internet customers, on a monthly rental of Rs 249.

He said for post paid mobile users BSNL would allow free calls.

Optical fibre cables were being laid in all the roads here for the broad band multiplex, he added.

Mr Leo said about 2,000 telephone connections which were disconnected on 'non payment' in the last six months were reconnected with incoming call facility only, and the rent for the disconnected period was waived off.
