BJP's membership increased by 30 per cent in Bengal
Kolkata, Dec 13 (UNI) Newly elected West Bengal BJP president Sukumar Banerjee today claimed that the party's membership had increased by 30 per cent from previous year.
Talking to newspersons here, Mr Banerjee said over 1.40 lakh members were in 2005, but now it stood at 1,82,356, an increase of 30 per cent.
The increase bore an ample testimony to the fact that the party had been gaining strength in the state, he added.
Mr Banerjee said the party's state organising committee election would be held every three years and added that the comittee would be formed after consultation with the party members.
He also said the party's future plan and programme would be decided at the state committee meeting, to be held on January 20 and 21 next year.
To a query about the Tata's small car project, he said, '' We want industry in the state but are opposed to acquisition of farm land.
'' '' We will not appeal to Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee to withdraw her hunger strike and will continue supporting her in this regard, '' Mr Banerjee replied to another query.
