6.80 million wireless users added in November
New Delhi, Dec 13 (UNI) The wireless segment added 6.80 million subscribers during November 2006, the highest ever growth in any single calendar month.
The grand total at the end of November 2006, total wireless (GSM, CDMA and WLL-F) subscribers were 143.02 million, according to latest figures compiled by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
The wireline subscriber registered a negative growth of 0.05 million in November, 2006, resulting in net addition of 6.75 million subscribers as compared to 6.52 million during October 2006. The wireline subscriber base reached 40.51 million at the end of November 2006.
The gross telephony subscribers in country touched 183.53 million at the end of November 2006, as compared to 176.78 million in October 2006. The overall tele-density reached 16.60 in November 2006, as compared to 16 at the end of October 2006. The tele-density in November 2005 was 11 and thus there is steep growth in tele-density in previous twelve months (50 per cent).
The net addition of wireless and fixed line subscribers in the first eight months of FY 2006-07 is 43.21 million, which is almost twice as compared to addition of 21.52 million in the corresponding period of FY 2005-06.
While broadband connections have continued the growth since beginning of 2006. At the end of November, 2006, total broadband connections in the country have reached 2 million having addition of 0.08 million during November, 2006.
The additions during first eight months of current financial year is 0.65 million as compared to 0.57 millions during the corresponding period in the previous financial year.
