Wanted criminal killed in encounter

Lucknow, Dec 12 (UNI) A history-sheeter, carrying a reward of Rs 2,500 on his head, was gunned down in an encounter in Azamgarh district late last night, police today said.

One revolver and a large number of cartridges were recovered from the spot.

Acting on a tip-off about the presence of a notorious criminal under Jiyanpur police station area, cops reached the spot and shot dead a miscreant, identified as, Abdul Rehman, police added.

Abdul was sentenced to life by a local court on Nevember 21 last and had been absconding since then. As many as eight cases of loot and murder were pending against the slain criminal.
