New Delhi, Dec 12 (UNI) Delhi Urban Development and Public Works Department Minister A K Walia has taken a lead in conveying woes of the people in national capital to the Delhi Development Authority.

In a letter to DDA Vice-Chairman Dinesh Rai, he said Delhiites had been experiencing alot of difficulties in finding a site to organise marriages and social and family functions.

''Finding a suitable place is, indeed, a herculean task these days,'' Dr Walia said.

Situation had worsened after recent restrictions on banquet halls and use of farmhouses in Delhi. If the issue was not addressed immediately, the situation would aggravate further, he added.

People were now forced to organise marriage functions outside Delhi or postpone marriages with a hope to arrange suitable site in the city, the Minister said.

''Many of the marriages and other functions are now being held in neighbouring cities of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.'' ''A number of people meet me daily seeking assistance in booking a suitable venue for marriages, Dr Walia said.

He requested DDA to take urgent steps to overcome the situation, which could lead to a social problem.

He underlined the need of the people and requested the DDA to identify and develop suitable sites across Delhi for organising marriages and other social functions. And suggested the DDA to develop at least 15 such sites in each Assembly constituency -- more than 1,000 suitable sites across Delhi.

Dr Walia exhorted the DDA to give due consideration to the urgent need of the people and make it an integral part of planning in respect of the 2021 Master Plan.
