Tamil Nadu take first innings lead against Orissa

Jamshedpur, Dec 12 (UNI) Tamil Nadu surpassed Orissa's first innings total 222 all out and scored 227 for nine to take a slender five- run lead on the penultimate day of the Cooch Behar trophy (Under-19) semifinal match at Keenan stadium here today.

Riding on a fine half-century by K M Sanjeev(51) and a solid 47 by opener Abhinav Mukund Tamil Nadu managed to put the all important lead which would see through them to the final.

But a fine efforts by Orissa medium pacer Alok Chandra Sahoo, who bagged four wickets off 66 runs was not enough to preveut Tamil Nadu from taking the vital lead.

Dheeraj Singh and Alok Mangaraj also picked up two wickets each sparing 70 and 55 runs respectively.

At stumps M Rangarajan (20) and M Prabhu (0) were batting at the close of day's play.

Earlier, resuming at 209 for nine Orissa's last pair managed to add 13 runs and were all out for 222. Spinners R Pandiaraj and Rangarajan scalped four and three wickets for 60 and 47 runs respectively.
