Swamy opposes US forces withdrawal from Iraq
Chennai, Dec 12 (UNI) Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy today opposed the withdrawal of US forces from Iraq, saying it would boost the credibility and reach of international terrorists and their sponsors.
In a statement here, he said the US government had no moral right at this juncture to ''cut and run'' from Iraq as advocated by a US congregational study.
Expression apprehensions that terrorists might occupy the vacuum created in Iraq, Dr Swamy said the forces' withdrawal at this stage would undermine the global trend towards democracy in Europe, Africa and Asia that was set in motion with the collapse of the USSR in 1991.
''If the US does not have the stomach to suffer 1,000 casualties fighting in Iraq annually, it should instead try to outsource the defence of Iraq to like-minded countries that lack billion of dollars required for the investment in infrastructure, constructing world class primary and secondary schools, health facilities and R&D in alternative energy sources,'' he suggested.
