Mysore, Dec 12 (UNI) A three-day 26th annual conference of South Asian Language Analysis will be held here from December 19.

In a joint press conference here, Central Institute of Indian Languages Director Prof Udayanarayan Singh and Kannada University Vice-Chancellor Prof B A Viveka Rai said the conference, mainly held in the US, was being held in the country for the second time.

They said linguists consider South Asia a linguistic area as languages there had a long history and were repositories of lingustic features which were of interest to scholars. With modernisation throwing up new challenges for the languages, it was interesting to study the various strategies adopted by these languages to face and overcome these challenges.

Mr Rai said over 200 delegations were expected to attend the conference and nearly 106 scholars would present their research papers. Twenty scholars from the US, the UK, Germany, France, Iran, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan were expected to attend the conference.

Mr Singh said the papers would be presented in 37 sessions and the entire conference proceedings would be brought out in a volume and submitted to the Union Government.
