Six houses totally damaged, 20 partially in heavy rain

Puducherry, Dec 12 (UNI) As many as six houses were totally damaged and 20 partially following heavy rains which lashed Puducherry and its suburbs in the last two days.

While three houses each at Kakkayanthoppe and Kirumambakkampet were totally damaged, 20 houses were partially damaged at Nallavadu.

Puducherry received 40.5 mm of rainfall for the 24 hours ending at 0830 hours today.

Former Social Welfare minister P Rajavelu today urged the territorial administration to provide adequate compensation to those whose houses were damaged in the rain.

In a letter to Chief Minister N Rangasamy, Mr Rajavelu said many houses in Kirumambakkam area were damaged and several places were waterlogged.

The poor villagers were unable to go for work and therefore, the government should provide food packets to them, he said adding that adequate compensation be given for houses damaged and crops loss in the area after proper enumeration, he added.
