SC dismisses petition against Domestic Violence Act

New Delhi, Dec 12 (UNI) The Supreme Court has dismissed a PIL challenging the validity of the recently enacted Domestic(Violence against Women)Act on the grounds that PIL cannot be entertained on such issues.

The Parivarik Surakhsha Foundation, petitioner NGO, contended that the impugned Act had been notified in official gazette without even having been debated in Parliament and was amenable to misuse.

According to the petitioner no law can be notified without having been passed by the two houses of Parliament.

However, later it was confirmed that the bill was thoroughly debated and passed by both houses of Parliament.

A bench comprising Justices K G Balakrishnan and D K Jain on Monday told the petitioner that if '' you have any personal grievance file a proper complaint in the competent court.'' UNI AKS/SC RP ND1802
