Samajwadi Party to field 30 candidates in Manipur

Imphal, Dec 12 (UNI) The Samajwadi party will contest in 30 Assembly seats in the ninth Assembl elections in 2007, in Manipur, Dr Sapam Dhananjoy, President of the SP, Manipur unit said.

He welcomed Holkhomang Haokip, former MP, who joined the Samajwadi Party and announced that in the letter will contest from Saikot, Churachandpur district.

He did not rule out the possibility of aligning with like minded parties. He said he does not see a bright future for the ruling Congress alliance in the next elections. He said the Ibobi government will not return to power and at the most the Congress will win in about ten seats, he added.

The party will focus on demand for repeal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act 1958 (AFSPA) and introduction of inner line permit in Manipur. Various organisations have demanded a check as the total population of immigrants have reached a staggering thirty percent of the total population.

The party will also support the demand for granting full revenue district status to Jiribam and Sadar Hills, he added.
