PM has done a lot for Punjab, no need of package: CM

Hoshiarpur, Dec 12 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amrinder Singh today said there was no need for any central industrial package for Punjab as Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh during his two and a half year tenure, had provided Rs 10,000 crore to the state.

The Prime Minister would now lay down the foundation stone for the upgradation of Halwara Airport to international status, he said while talking to newspersons just before commencing the third phase of his ''Vikas Yatra'' from here.

He said the state government had already granted sanction for setting up Rs 9700 crore mega projects. Sanction for the remaining projects of Rs 300 crore would be given next month, he added. All these projects would provide employment to 20 lakh unemployed youths in state, he added.

The Chief Minister said for setting up mega projects, infrastructural facilities like all-weather roads and availability of power were required for which state government had already launched a campaign. Almost all state highways in Punjab had been widened and strengthened for regular and smooth flow of traffic.

The state was generating 5900 MW power daily which would be increased to 13,000 MW through enhancing generation capacity of Shahpur Kandi, Mukerian Hydel and Lehra Mohabat power projects, the Chief Minister said. Besides a thermal plant would also be installed by GVK group of industries at Goindwal, he added.
