Panchayat Federation seeks more power to local bodies

Puducherry, Dec 12(UNI) The Federation of Village Panchayat Presidents had sought the support of the legislators to get the bill to devolve powers to the elected representatives of the local bodies passed in the winter session of the assembly on December 15. The Convenor of the Federation, Nagamuthu and Deputy Convenor, Jaganathan, in a letter written to all the legislators here urged them to cooperate to get the bill passed so as to enable the commune panchayats to get 29 programmes and funds and the municipalities 18 programmes and funds as per the Constitution.
