New examination pattern for IITs
New Delhi Dec 12 (UNI) A new pattern of examination has been introduced in the Joint Entrance Examination for admissions to IITs with a view to reduce the stress on the candidates, the Lok Sabha was informed today.
To be implemented from 2007 onwards, the new examination would contain new features-- it would be a single tier exam based on objective-type questions with two papers, each of three hours duration, Minister of State for HRD D Purandeswari said in a written reply.
It would consist of separate sections in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, she added.
These changes have been made to reduce stress on the students.
The Model answers would be put on websites of all IITs and performance card would be sent to each student.
In response to a specific query, she said a Committee of experts already exists which takes all necessary steps from time to time to improve the system.
On the possibility of increasing the number of seats, the minister said the decision is taken by the Institutes themselves.
