Milind Deora welcomes HC Verdict
Mumbai, Dec 12 (UNI) Milind Deora, MP from South Mumbai, today welcomed the verdict of the High Court on the guidelines for the reconstruction of old and dilapidated buildings in the city.
Mr Deora observed that the new guidelines, laid out by the court, were a major boon not only for the thousands of affected tenants, but for the city as a whole.
All dilapidated buildings are cessed but not all cessed buildings are dilapidated, he said. Until yesterday's verdict, developers of cessed structures would usually pick buildings in profitables areas only and use the Housing Department's reconstruction incentives for their own profits, he said.
Deora said not only did this ignore genuinely dilapidated structures, thereby putting tenants in danger, but it also put a tremendous strain or the city's civic infrastructure, primarily water reources, sanitation and traffic.
The verdict, therefore, is a welcome step in ensuring that only dangersous structures will be redeveloped, he said.
