KPCC chief urges K'taka Govt to shift Bidar DC, SP

Bangalore, Dec 12 (UNI) Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President Mallikarjuna Kharge today demanded the immediate transfer of Bidar Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police for ''laxity'' on their part in checking the defiling of an Ambedkar statue by some miscreants recently.

Speaking to newspersons at the party office here, he said that though a police station was located just a few yards away from the statue, no effort was made to prevent the incident. On the other hand, police had resorted to lathicharge on innocent people, he accused.

Mr Kharge expressed happiness that Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy had agreed to order a Corps of Detectives inquiry into the incident.

He said the Chief Minister assured on various issues related to the welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes at a meeting held today. It was unfortunate that the State had not convened the review meeting at least once in six months in the last five years, he rued.

He said the Chief Minister had also assured that the Government would review the compensation being paid to harassed SC/ST victims once a month along with other developmental programmes.
