Injured Indian worker coming back home

Dubai, Dec 12 (UNI) A worker from Kerala, paralysed from the neck down after a worksite accident last month in Bahrain, will be flown home soon for further medical assistance.

Shahabuddin Elias Kachinda, who was injured after getting crushed under a falling stack of electrical goods, will be able to seek further medical care in Thiruvananthapuram, said Manama-based Salmaniya Medical Complex consultant neurosurgeon Dr Krishna Das.

He said the 55-year-old man, who has a wife and two children back home in Kerala, had severe cervical cord injuries and his spine was fractured in several places.

He said arrangements are being made to send a doctor and a nurse with Kachinda on his trip back home.

Dr Das said Kachinda is conscious which means his brain is functional. "He is recognising people, which is also a positive sign," he added.
