Haryana has big plans for Buddha's anniversary
Chandigarh, Dec 12 (UNI) The Haryana government has decided to celebrate the 2550th anniversary of Mahaprinirvana of Lord Buddha in a ''befitting manner.'' A decision to this effect was taken by the state level committee constituted to celebrate the 2550th anniversary of Mahaprinirvana of Lord Buddha which met under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today.
It was decided to get a book on the life and teachings of Lord Buddha printed by State Public Relations and Cultural Affairs Department in collaboration with Haryana Sahitya Akademi, Haryana Sanskrit Akademi and Kurukshetra University, an officila spokesman said.
The book would be distributed among the people free of cost so as to inspire them with the life and teachings of Lord Buddha.
Besides, seminars, declamation contests and debates would be organised in schools, colleges and universities in the state on the teachings of Lord Buddha.
It was also decided to organise exhibitions of paintings and pictures on life of Lord Buddha during the famous Suraj Kund Crafts Mela in Faridabad district.
Also, the monuments concerning Buddha in the state would be developed as centres of tourist attraction by the Departments of Archeology and Tourism so as to acquint the people with the life and teachings of Lord Buddha.
