Haryana gain two pts from drawn match against TN

Chennai, Dec 12 (UNI) Haryana pulled off an upset of sorts gaining two points for their first innings lead, forcing a draw against Tamil Nadu, who made 52 for one chasing 314 in 41 overs in their second innings of an Elite Group A Ranji trophy cricket championship match ended in a draw here today.

Resuming their second innings at the overnight score of 31 without loss, after gaining a crucial 118 run lead, Haryana, who opened their points tally after two defeats in a row, had Tamil Nadu under pressure declaring at 195 losing five wickets, 40 minutes after lunch.

Openers Sumit Sharma (41), S Rana (38) and middle order bat A Rawat (31) were the main scorer. For Tamil Nadu, debutant off spinner, R Ashwin claimed two wickets for 55 runs.

Tamil Nadu began their impossible chase for an outright win on a disastrous note losing opener S Anirudha off a direct hit by Rawat, to the last ball of the first over of their innings.

But openers M Vijay (32) and R Prasanna (18) saw the side through the rest of the batting time.

Tamil Nadu, who failed to gain any point from their third match, will take on Saurashtra at Rajkot from Decembr 17.

Brief scores: Haryana 287 and 195-5 (S Sharma 41, A Rawat 31, S Rana n.o 38). Tamil Nadu 169 and 52-1( M Vijay n.o 32, R Prasanna n.o 18).
