Fog envelopes Punjab, several road accidents reported
Phagwara, Dec 12 (UNI) As many as 37 people sustained injuries on National Highway-I between Jalandhar and Ludhiana due to the dense morning fog which reduced visibility, police officials said today.
The fog effected road and rail traffic at several places in Punjab. According to reports at least 18 vehicles were damaged in accidents on NH-I this morning.
Several hospitals along various national highways in Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Ludhiana and Nawanshahar districts reported receiving casualities. However, no loss of life was reported so far.
Meanwhile, several trains were running one to seven hours behind schedule due to poor vigibility caused by the thick fog.
Railway employees had to resort to bursting crackers on railway lines near ''Fog Signal Posts'' to give clearance signals to the coming trains.
The Superfast Express, Dadar Express, Barauni Express, Paschim Express, Shatabadi Express, Sachkhand Express, Flying Mail, Howrah Mail, Frontier Mail, Jhelum Express, Sialdeah Express, Hapa Express, and Malwa Express were all running behind schedule.
