Five AIR community radio stations in NE
Aizawl, Dec 12 (UNI) All India Radio (AIR) has set up five stations in three North Eastern states, two each in Meghalaya and Nagaland and one in Mizoram, a senior Information and Broadcasting official said today.
The government has liberalised the policy for grant of permission for setting up community radio stations to 'non-profit' organisations viz Civil Society&Voluntary Organisations, State Agricultural Universities, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Institutions, Krishi Vigyan Kendras, Registered Societies and Autonomous Bodies and Public Trusts registered under Societies Act or any other such act relevant for the purpose, in addition to the educational institutions.
The official informed that the Government had initiated a proposal to include North East Package for All India Radio and Doordarshan in the 11th Plan.
During the first phase, he said Rs 405.35 crore had been sanctioned to DD and AIR.
