FAM to strike opposing Wal-Mart's retail entry
Mumbai, Dec 12: Opposing Wal-Mart's retail entry in India and any changes in the FDI (Foreign Direct investment) retail policy, the sponsoring committee of trade unions has decided to go in a strike on Thursday.
Federation of Association of Maharashtra (FAM) President Mohan Gurnani said despite the fact that FDI in retail was not allowed, Wal-Mart had been trying to force its entry into the Indian retail market through the backdoor.
''With the highest density of small shops in the world, Indian retailers face an immediate threat, particularly in Maharashtra including Mumbai, and will fully resist Wal-Mart's attempts to enter into the retail market,'' he added.
